The Most Beautiful Movies Ever Made: Drive (2011)

Today’s movie is the 2011 smash hit Drive. The story ticks all the boxes, it is not only visually stunning, but it has an incredible soundtrack and while being incredibly dark, has a beautiful storyline of a love that never really gets chance to reach fruition.

The story follows an un-named wheel-man who participates in a robbery that goes tragically wrong. On a parallel to
this incident (although completely related) he meets the beautiful Irene and falls in love with both her, and her son.

Fright Night (2011)

When you’re in the movie business it does not matter how successful you’re film is, there must always be things that you can see in a movie after it’s made and improve upon them. For Tom Holland he had the opportunity to work magic twice in 1985 he worked solely as writer and director of Fright Night, in 2010 he got the chance to go back and breathe new life into his cult classic, with the aid of screenwriter Marti Noxon. Many dreaded the remake of Fright Night, a movie that is no better, or no worse than the original, and by choosing not to remain faithful to the origins, it really is a different film altogether.

The Wicker Tree (2010)

For many, it has been a movie that has been nearly 40 years in the making, some see it as a re-imagining, and some see it as a sequel, I think I need to steal some terminology from Ridley Scott, The Wicker Tree has the same DNA as The Wicker Man, but that, is quite literally as far as it goes. What The Wicker Tree most definitely is, is a tale written and directed the creator of the original man, so really who could be better to handle such a project?

Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) are a pair of honest, hard working rednecks who have just bought themselves a vacation home in an area rumoured to have a “history”. It’s fair to say that Tucker and Dale in some ways, are a little mentally challenged, and it’s just this fact that leads their first encounters with college kids to be a little “disturbing”. When they save Ali (Katrina Bowden) from drowning, her friends become convinced that they have kidnapped her for despicable means, and they hatch a plan to get her back. Innocent Tucker and Dale however can only look on, as the kids are killed off one by one in a series of freak accidents, which leads the kids to believe that the holidaying couple are the most despicable killers of all time.

Contagion (2011)

It seems that we just can’t do enough to depress ourselves, the latest Steven Soderbergh will certainly leave you with one of the bleakest views of any Hollywood blockbuster for years, while managing to create a disaster movie where the money goes into the casting and not the special effects.
